This tendon runs across the shoulder joint and may cause pain. 

It can be treated by dividing the tendon (tenotomy) or dividing and re-fixing (tenodesis) it to the groove at the top of the arm bone (humerus). 

Such surgery is often performed alongside one or more or the following:

• Cuff repair
• Subacromial decompression
• Lateral clavicle excision
